News RoomNews RoomDecember 16, 2023No Comments3 Mins Read

Holy smokes, it’s Saturday! Where does the time go? We’re quite literally halfway through the month of December, with just two meager weeks left before 2024 is born and comes wailing into this world. The infant year isn’t here just yet, however.

If you’re looking for wintry activities this weekend, do be sure to check out my weekend streaming guide:

And, of course, there’s Wordle and all the other puzzles to play. Speaking of which, it’s Wordle time baby!

How To Solve Today’s Word

The Hint: A famous theater.

The Clue: This word ends with a vowel.

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

I almost went with rebel for my opening guess because I’d just made this video about Zack Snyder’s new Star Wars-inspired Netflix movie, Rebel Moon. But I disliked having two E’s in my opening guess, so I fudged around with words that sort of sounded like rebel and eventually settled on table, which I don’t think I’ve ever used before. This was an enormously lucky guess, leaving me with just six words to choose from.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

What I came up with when thinking about my next guess was just a few possible five-letter words: bugle, bulge, bloke and globe. Later, when I ran the Wordle Bot analysis, the Bot said I could have also picked from belie, plebe and bilge.

In any case, I figured I’d rule out the one word I could think of that started with a ‘G’ instead of a ‘B’. Turns out, that was a very lucky choice! Globe for the win! Huzzah!

Today’s Competitive Wordle Score

I get 2 points for guessing in two and 1 point for beating Wordle Bot, who guessed in three, for a stellar 3 point game today! I’m the king of the world!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “globe” comes from the Latin word “globus,” meaning a sphere or a round mass. This Latin term was used to describe anything round or spherical, including celestial bodies like the Earth and the stars. The word “globus” itself likely has roots in earlier Proto-Indo-European languages, where it may have been related to terms meaning to gather or clump together, reflecting the spherical form created by such a gathering.

The usage of “globe” in English to specifically refer to a spherical model of the Earth or the celestial sphere dates back to the late Middle Ages. This was a period of significant advancement in cartography and astronomy, which likely influenced the adoption and popularization of the term.

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also play against the Bot if you have a New York Times subscription.

Here are the rules:

  • 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating me
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
  • -3 points for losing.
  • -1 point for losing to me

You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.
