In February of 2023, Sony announced that the PlayStation Plus Collection was being phased out in May. The two doze (or so) games that all PS5 owners who subscribed to PlayStation Plus got as part of an extra bonus would no longer be on offer, though anyone who claimed them before the 9th of May would still be able to access them.
Sony also announced a really great lineup of free games for PS Plus Essential (and above) subscribers, which included Evil Dead: The Game, OlliOlli World, Destiny 2: Beyond Light and Mafia: Definitive Edition. It was one of the best months of the year, made even better by a great lineup of PS Plus Extra titles later in the month, including Horizon: Forbidden West, Resident Evil Biohazard, The Quarry, Scarlet Nexus, Borderlands 3 and Outriders.
At least one of those games is leaving PS Plus this February.
But enough about the past. Let’s talk about the future. Read on to find out everything we know about February 2024’s free PS Plus games.
What Is PlayStation Plus And How Much Does It Cost?
PS Plus is Sony’s monthly membership program that grants access to online gaming. You don’t need it for streaming movies or TV shows on Netflix and other services, or for free-to-play games like Warzone or Fortnite. Any paid online games, however, require a subscription.
There are three PS Plus tiers—Essential, Extra and Premium—though for the purposes of this post we’re only discussing the Essential tier’s free monthly games. Following a big price-hike earlier this year, these tiers cost: PS Plus Essential — $79.99/year; PS Plus Extra — $134.99/year; PS Plus Premium — $159.99/year.
When Will Sony Reveal Next Month’s PS Plus Games?
Sony reveals the following month’s games on the last Wednesday of the month, though this isn’t always the case. The actual rule of thumb is that the new lineup always releases on the first Tuesday of the month and the games are revealed the previous Wednesday.
This means that we should get an official announcement on Wednesday the 31st of January, 2024 with the games rolling out on Tuesday, February 6th. You’ll still be able to access January’s games—A Plague Tale: Requiem, Evil West and Nobody Saves the World—until that Tuesday. It’s a really strong lineup so don’t forget to claim those titles!
PS Plus March Leaks, Rumors And Predictions
We actually know what one of next month’s PS Plus monthly games will be: Foamstars, a 4v4 online multiplayer game where players battle it out in a contest called the Foamsmash. It looks a lot like a foamy take on Nintendo’s Splatoon, a paint-based competitive shooter. Here’s the trailer:
Beyond this, your guess is as good as mine! There have been no further leaks or rumors, but I think something like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag would make sense given the imminent release of Ubisoft’s new pirate game, Skull & Bones (at last, on Feb. 16th). Or perhaps Final Fantasy VII Remake since Final Fantasy VII Rebirth releases at the end of February. Might as well drive a little extra hype to the new game!
