Apple’s iMac Refresh Delayed Until 2024

News RoomNews RoomOctober 18, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

Apple has already disappointed those waiting on a new MacBook before the end of this year. Now, it looks set to do the same with the iMac, with the much-needed update to the desk-bound computer delayed until 2024.

The news comes from respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Zac Hall reports, “According to Kuo, Apple will rev the 24-inch iMac line in 2024 and not in 2023.”

The iMac looks tired compared to the rest of the Mac line-up. Apple’s consumer-focused desktop is currently available with Apple’s M1 chipset, which was originally launched in 2020 as the first ARM-based chipset for the Mac platform. While other Macs have moved on to the M2 family, the iMac remains a lacklustre older choice.

The obvious upgrade is to the current M2 platform, yet a release in 2024 will likely happen after Apple moves on to the M3 platform. A smart decision would be for the iMac to skip over the M2 family and move straight to the new M3 when it arrives.

Given the MacBook Air, which is expected to launch the M3 chipset, has been delayed until the middle of 2024, a new iMac launching alongside the next MacBook Air feels like the most likely schedule.
