AMD Reveals Radeon RX 7800 XT And 7700 XT Graphics Cards

News RoomNews RoomAugust 25, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

September 6th this year will see the launch of AMD’s long-awaited Radeon RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT graphics cards which the company revealed today. Filling the gap between the RX 7900 XT and RX 7600 XT, with the former having launched all the way back in December last year, they’ll have competition from Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 40-series cards plus AMD’s own Radeon RX 6000-series. AMD is focussing on 1440p performance.

The Radeon RX 7800 XT is set to retail from $499 and the RX 7700 XT from $449.

The Radeon RX 7800 XT is aiming for Nvidia’s RTX 4070 with the latter only having 12GB of memory compared to 16GB for the Radeon card. AMD’s own results show a sizeable lead in performance at 1440p in games such as Cyberpunk 2077m Watch Dogs: Legion, Overwatch 2 and The Last Of Us Part 1.

The Radeon RX 7700 XT meanwhile, is aiming for the scalp of the Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti. Here, the AMD card has 12GB while the RTX 4060 Ti comes with either 8GB or 16GB. Even with the latter, though, AMD’s figures have the RX 7700 XT well ahead of it as you can see in the graph below.

AMD is keen to emphasis the on-paper advantages of the two new cards, which boast more memory than most of their counterparts (with the exception of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB) but also wider memory interfaces and more memory bandwidth.

For example, the RX 7700XT has a 192-bit memory interface compared to 128-bits for the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB and 432GB/sec memory bandwidth compared to 288GB/sec for the RTX card.

The RX 7700 XT will also be going up against the RX 6750 XT, which has proved a popular choice for 1080p and 1440p gamers in times of high graphics card prices. Meanwhile, the RX 7800XT has the RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT amongst others that PC gamers will be considering.

I’ll be reviewing the new cards when they land next month so be sure to follow me on Twitter or Facebook or head over to my YouTube channel.
