The amount of cheating in Palworld is frankly bizarre for a PvE-based game where you can change the settings to make the game as easy as you want, but it’s happening all the same.
Now, Palworld has announced a number of steps they’re making to attempt to curb cheating and punish those responsible, as in some instances it’s gotten so bad that normal players often can’t play since they can’t connect to even official servers thanks to cheating. Here’s what’s happening.
- Pocketpair will introduce a “player list” function for servers in two weeks or so, which will be able to better ID cheaters and make them easier to suspend.
- They are going to have an external anti-cheating “solution” the way we see with many other online games, though which one is not specified. They will make this optional on community, co-op and single player servers.
- Then there’s a more generalized promises to take additional “thorough measures” to prevent cheating in Palworld. They apologize for not being able to keep up with the problem despite working on it daily, but as we’ve previously heard, the developer is severely understaffed when it comes to managing a game this size, and they’re doing their best as they try to hire up.
Again, I really don’t understand the desire to cheat in a Palworld server of all places, as the game doesn’t even have PvP yet, and again, the settings are there to essentially make the game as easy as possible, so I don’t get the point. But if it’s affecting actual server connection for non-cheating players, that’s terrible.
Meanwhile, even if Palworld is down 75% from its peak, that 2.1 million concurrent peak was so high that it is still managing 500,000 concurrents or so even during weekdays, placing it firmly and consistently in the top 5-10 games on Steam. While new release Helldivers 2 is stealing a lot of headlines as a big hit for Sony on Steam, that game is still peaking at half of what Palworld is doing at 250,000. Though it may creep higher this weekend as its momentum has not slowed.
Given how new Palworld is, the question remains about whether it will be a month-long trend or a long-term hit past what it’s already achieved. Given the mass of concurrents it still has, it’s certainly looking pretty promising, and those numbers appear to be stabilizing rather than continually putting up big drops, but it’s a long year and still early, so we’ll see.
