How To Win Seats On A Total Solar Eclipse Flight From Dallas Or Austin

News RoomNews RoomMarch 1, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

Southwest Airlines and Omni Hotels have teamed up to offer a unique experience to two travelers who want to witness the total solar eclipse on April 8 for an airplane.

The “Solarbration Sweepstakes” will see two winners and their guests given a chance to experience totality from 35,000 feet aboard one of two scheduled Southwest Airlines flights:

  • Southwest Flight #1252, departing Dallas (Love Field) at 12:40 p.m. CDT for Pittsburgh.
  • Southwest Flight #1721, departing Austin at 12:55 p.m. CDT for Indianapolis.

Both are sold out and have been for months. During February, Delta put two similar flights on sale, from Austin and Dallas Fort Worth to Detroit at the time of the eclipse. Both sold out in less than 24 hours.

Solar Eclipse Suites

Open until 8:00 a.m. CT on March 11, the Solarbration Sweepstakes’ package also includes a stay in a custom-designed “Solar Eclipse Suite” at an Omni hotel in the departure cities of Dallas and Austin, and the arrival cities of Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.

“Our partnership with Southwest Airlines allows us to share Omni’s genuine hospitality and connect with their customers through the Solarbration sweepstakes,” said Colleen Buckley, Director of Brand Management and Marketing at Omni Hotels and Resorts. “We’re excited to offer the sweepstakes winners a unique and one-of-a-kind experience in our eclipse-themed Omni guest rooms.”

Omni currently offers solar glasses, early check-in, late checkout, and an eclipse-themed treat for guests staying in one of its hotels between April 5 and 9.

Over The Moon

“The whole world will be looking up on April 8, and we’re over the moon to leverage our place in the sky by extending an opportunity to observe this phenomenon on several Southwest flights in the path of the eclipse,” said Julia Melle, Director of Brand and Content for Southwest Airlines. The eclipse will only be visible from North America, mainly as a partial, though also as a total within the 115-mile wide path of totality that will stretch across Mexico, parts of 15 U.S. states and Canada.
