‘Helldivers 2’ Confirms New Terminid Strain Which It Previously Denied Existed

News RoomNews RoomMarch 21, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

High Command of Super Earth is know for never lying to their Patriotic Helldivers, but it seems that may not be the case this time around. Helldivers 2 has just issued a new Intelligence Brief that confirms the existence of a new strain of Terminids, flying ones, when previously Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt denied their existence, saying such rumors were propaganda. But I guess not.

Here’s the new briefing that players can read when they log in today:

“A new strain of flying Terminids has suddenly appeared across all Terminid planets with no prior warning or indication of any kind. While the Ministry of Intelligence has always known this was a possibility, the abruptness of the evolution indicates a high possibility of dissident concealment.

The deployment of the Termicide was fortuitously timed, doubtlessly. It averted an even worse evolution. Helldivers are encouraged to exterminate these mutatations wherever encountered.”

So, I believe this message is appearing now because other than a few isolated incidents (which could certainly be viewed as “prior warning”) they will now be widespread across Terminid planets. The flying versions will swoop down and attack you and will spawn from nests you must seek out and destroy. I imagine this will now be a more common map objective.

As of the last patch, I have not yet seen anything new or sneaky added to the game like flying Terminids last time. The theory, of course, is that perhaps it was the Termicide itself that caused the mutation when it had not been previously seen.

As it stands, there is a Major Order that has been issued to take over two planets in two sectors that the community seems on track to fail. It’s taken about two days to get the first one, and I doubt there is enough time to get the second cleared, but we will see how much the Helldivers can push and how much resistance the bugs put up.

Given that there has not been a truly major development in a little while now, and almost the entire map is cleared of enemies at this point, it does feel like something major is going to be coming soon. Whether it’s at the end of this Major Order or not, which is likely going to fail, is unclear, but I would brace for impact just in case.

We’ll keep tracking these developments and now, watch the skies, I suppose. Let’s hope the Automatons don’t learn how to fly next.
