According to a recent release, The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) and MEXT, a digital transformation center in Turkey, have signed an agreement to bring the Industrial Technology Transformation Index (ITTI), based in UAE, to Turkey. This reportedly is the first international expansion for the ITTI. The UAE said in the release that this is part of its mission to bring the global manufacturing industry in line with its environmental and technological goals.
“By implementing the index with our strategic partners at MEXT, MoIAT is driving digitalisation and sustainable industrial development in the region in line with our role as a champion of 4IR, advanced technology, digital transformation and innovation,” said Sarah Al Amiri, UAE Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology. “We know that the decarbonisation of industry must be an inclusive and global effort. That is why the UAE is committed to creating enablers that support industries around the world to harness advanced technologies and enhance efficiency. We are actively seeking to engage countries and partners that share our ambition to transform industry through digitalisation and sustainable practices.”
Based in Turkey, MEXT’s stated mission is to support industrial companies in meeting sustainability goals and digital transformation within Industry 4.0. It is the Technology and Innovation Centre of the Turkish Employers’ Association of Metal Industries (MESS) and its membership includes more than 50 partners. The ITTI was launched in UAE in February under the Technology Transformation Programme by MoIAT and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED). It is designed as a framework for measuring the digital maturity and sustainability of factories and creating a roadmap for industrial transformation.
“MEXT will be glad to share expertise and technical knowledge from Turkey with the industry in UAE, fostering new collaborations and opportunities within the framework of the new MoU,” said Efe Erdem, Executive Director of MEXT. “We believe the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology throughout the country, including The Technology Transformation Programme (ITT) are very crucial steps in empowering the industry for its digitalisation and sustainability journey. MEXT will continue its engagements in the UAE to assist the industry with its transformation.” MEXT has been busy making deals for some time, in fact. Last year, MEXT and Nokia made a deal to bring a private 5G wireless network into the facility
The partners will work together to expand the ITTI wherever possible. Under the MoU, the release said, MoIAT and MEXT will collaborate to support ITTI’s rollout. They stated that they will spread awareness of the index through roadshows and events, supporting companies in the midst of digital transformations and reducing carbon use and emissions, and continually generating thought leadership on Industry 4.0 and sustainability.
