Comedy streaming service Dropout and Live Nation present Dimension 20: Gauntlet at The Garden, a live iteration of the beloved tabletop role playing game series in the round, on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Madison Square Garden. Fans of the show will be able to see their favorite cast members play the world’s most popular role playing game in the same place that’s hosted everything from Frank Sinatra to Wrestlemania. The clatter of dice will mix with the laughs and cheers from the crowd in this groundbreaking event.
The live tabletop show experience acts as a call of adventure from Game Master Brennan Lee Mulligan. A New York native, Mulligan leads guests through an extension of the New York City-themed season of Dimension 20 called The Unsleeping City, which imagines a secret sixth borough of the The City That Never Sleeps.
The Unsleeping City originally premiered in 2020. It blended urban fantasy with classic D&D conventions into a world full of magic, action and giant slices of pizza. The entire series originally premiered on Dropout but all episodes are available on Dimension 20’s YouTube channel.
In Dimension 20: Gauntlet at The Garden, Mulligan’s table will include Dimension 20’s main cast of players and intrepid heroes Emily Axford, Ally Beardsley, Brian Murphy, Zac Oyama, Siobhan Thompson, and Lou Wilson. The characters range from a Mafia princess to a talking rat. This wild reunion of some of the show’s most beloved cast members will be sure to delight fans around the world.
Mulligan has become a face of the actual play genre thanks to his inclusive Dungeon Master style. His improvisational skill lets him hold his ground against a table of great comedians while still telling emotional stories. While he can be seen across Dropout’s comedy lineup, being at the center of Dimension 20 is where he looks most at home.
Actual play shows have played the convention circuit for years. Recently, larger shows like Critical Role and Dimension 20 have taken the experience to larger venues outside of what might be expected as places to play RPGs. Critical Role played Wembley Arena in front of 12,000 fans recently, while Dimension 20 is embarking on a spring tour of the UK and Ireland this year.
Actual plays remains a popular way for fans to engage with D&D. They’ve taken away some of the stigma and obscurity of playing RPGs and given folks who can’t get a game together a way to enjoy these stories. They are a key reason the game is more popular than ever as it enters its 50th anniversary year.
