MacOS 14.4.1: New Mac And MacBook Update Comes With Critical Fixes

News RoomNews RoomMarch 27, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

Apple has released the latest update for the MacBook, Mac, and iMac computers. macOS Sonoma version 14.4.1 addresses several concerns raised—including a critical issue around cloud-based backups—following the substantive 14.4 release at the start of the month.

Which Macs Can Run macOS 14.4.1?

The following Macs support macOS Sonoma; MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini models from 2018 or later; Mac Pro models from 2019 or later; iMac models from 2019 or later; iMac Pro models from 2017 or later; and all Mac Studio models.

For older hardware limited to macOS Ventura, Apple has a new security update with the release of macOS 13.6.6.

How To Get It

The macOS update can be downloaded directly from your Mac. Go to System Settings, choose General, and then choose Software Update. It may take some time to roll out worldwide, so check again if it is not immediately visible.

What’s In The Release

MacOS 14.4 offered several new features but also introduced some significant bugs that have been impacting the quality of life across the platform; users reported that some USB devices stopped working after the update, requiring changes to the privacy and security settings to allow a connection; under some circumstances, older versions of files backed up to iCloud were deleted; and Java processes were crashing unexpectedly on Apple Silicon powered Macs.

The release notes for macOS 14.4.1 address these problems and two new security issues.

As the impact of the bugs in macOS 14.4 became clear, Mac users held back from updating, which was an issue given the significant number of security issues macOS 14.4 fixed. With the release of this update, it should once again be safe to update your Mac to the latest version to keep you as secure as possible.
