Star Wars’ ‘The Acolyte’ Gets A Release Date And Stunning New Trailer

News RoomNews RoomMarch 19, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

We now have our first trailer for The Acolyte, the upcoming Disney Plus series that takes place a long, long time before any current Disney Star Wars content, back when the Jedi were still numerous. Though…someone wants to change that.

The first trailer for The Acolyte shows Amandla Stenberg’s Sith(?) warrior hunting down and killing Jedi, attempting to assassinate one with a small little knife which seems a bit…odd, but I’m sure there’s a method to the madness.

Later, we do see a red saber flying around and a force blast knocking a whole crew of Jedi off their feet, though it’s not shown explicitly that it’s Stenberg doing that damage.

On the other side of the equation is Lee Jung-jae’s Sol, a Jedi master who appears to have had Stenberg as a student, and is now tasked with stopping her Jedi murder spree. Interestingly, a character named Aniseya is shown, where that name is derived from ancient Greek, where it means “unequal, uneven,” which seems like not so much of a coincidence given that she is talking about trying to balance the power between the Jedi and everyone else.

Here’s the official description for The Acolyte, which will debut with two episodes on its June 4 release date:

“In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems,”

The show is run by Leslye Headland of Russian Doll and Single Drunk Female fame. You may have seeing Amandla Stenberg in Bodies Bodies Bodies, The Hate U Give or way, way back when as Rue in The Hunger Games. Jung-Jae Lee is of course from Netflix megahit, Squid Games. You can catch a glimpse of Carrie-Ann Moss in there. The show also has Dafne Keen of Logan fame, now seven years older than when that film was released. Probably 8-9 since it was filmed.

It looks cool? At the very least it looks different. A new story in a new era involving Jedi and Sith and we don’t have to hear the names Skywalker, Solo, Organa, Kenobi, Vader, any of it. Something brand new feels like what the Star Wars universe needs at the present moment, and I’m certainly looking forward to seeing it in just over two months.
