Today’s ‘Wordle’ Hints And Clues For Monday, March 4th — Wordle #989 Answer

News RoomNews RoomMarch 4, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

The first Monday of March is upon and we’re marching away toward Wordle #1000. Only a little over a week now. Then all of my Wordle guide headlines will be one character longer.

This also means we’re nearly halfway through Wordle’s list of possible answers, which is around 2,300 words long. I wonder if they’ll move to six-letter words when they run out of five-letter options? That’s what I’d do.

In any case, I hope you’re all having a lovely start of the work week. I’m a little beat, personally. I’ve been working out a lot—it’s my favorite anti-depressant—and my body is tired. Better soreness than sadness!

Anyways, let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Hot.

The Clue: This Wordle ends with a vowel.

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to see how I did. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

This started out quite badly for me. Round was not a lucky guess at all and a whopping 598 words remained to choose from, though I didn’t know it at the time of course. I guessed slate and this slashed that number down to just 7—reminding me why Wordle Bot used that word as a starting guess for so long (though it’s back to crane now).

I still had no way to go but luck at this point and guessed blame since it shared letters with flame also. If only I’d picked flame instead! Oh well.

Competitive Wordle Score

Both the Wordle Bot and I guessed in four so that’s 0 points for tying and 0 points for guessing in four. Zeroes all around.

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “flame” comes from the Old English word “flæm,” which means fire or flame. It is further derived from Proto-Germanic *flaumaz, which itself comes from Proto-Indo-European *bhlē-, an extended form of the root *bhel- (1), meaning “to shine, flash, burn,” reflecting the bright and shining nature of fire. This root also leads to various other words related to light and brightness in many Indo-European languages. Over time, “flame” evolved in Middle English to represent the blazing light or fire that we associate with the word today.
