NYT ‘Connections’ Hints And Answers For Wednesday, February 28

News RoomNews RoomFebruary 28, 2024No Comments4 Mins Read

Looking for Tuesday’s Connections hints and answers? You can find them here:

It’s Wednesday, and you what that means: it’s time for another game of Connections!

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

In Connections, you’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb or rappers.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is typically the hardest one to deduce. The purple group often involves wordplay, so bear that in mind.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers.

What Are Today’s Connections Hints?

Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today’s Connections groups, I’ll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them.

Today’s 16 words are:

  • BLUE
  • POLE
  • CUBAN
  • SPACE
  • AMERICAN
  • KITTEN
  • DUTCH
  • WEDGE
  • JEOPARDY
  • HURDLE
  • SWISS
  • DATE
  • JACK
  • HAMMER
  • STILETTO
  • JAVELIN

And the clues for today’s groups are:

  1. Yellow group — types of food made from milk curds
  2. Green group — gear you’ll see in an Olympic stadium
  3. Blue group — types of elevated shoes
  4. Purple group — twice as nice, perhaps

  • Purple group — double ____

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are…

  • Yellow group — cheeses, familiarly (AMERICAN, BLUE, JACK, SWISS)
  • Green group — track and field equipment (HAMMER, HURDLE, JAVELIN, POLE)
  • Blue group — kinds of heels (CUBAN, KITTEN, STILETTO, WEDGE)
  • Purple group — double ____ (DATE, DUTCH, JEOPARDY, SPACE)

No perfect game today, but my winning streak is up to 11.

I figured out pretty quickly that there was a group of cheeses, but decided to put those on the backburner (mmm, melted cheese) for a bit since it seemed like there were some red herrings.

JEOPARDY caught my eye since there are a few clear meanings for that word. Once I realized there were no other references to danger or game shows, I looked for other words that could follow “double” and completed the purple group. The greens were pretty self-evident and I got those next.

I don’t believe I’ve ever eaten Pepper Jack or Monterey Jack, so those aren’t types of cheese I’m familiar with despite seeing them pop up in many recipes over the years. So I included WEDGE with the greens instead for my only mistake. I then corrected that and completed the group.

I had an inkling about there being a group of shoes — STILETTO doesn’t have too many meanings. But I’m not familiar enough with heels to more precisely have deduced the blues. Thankfully, I just had to assemble the remaining words for victory.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog for hints and the solution for Thursday’s game if you need them.

P.S. I saw this funny tweet about how out there some of these Connections groups are getting. I hope you enjoy it too.
