‘The Bear’ Season 3 Release Date Is Surprisingly Close

News RoomNews RoomFebruary 10, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

The Bear just finished winning a whole lot of Emmys for its cast and crew, and now it’s going to be returning for season 3 sooner than most people may have thought.

We learned a few things from Chairman of FX Content and productions John Landgraf at the TCA Winter Tour recently. He said that it would arrive in June 2024 on Hulu, and that it would almost certainly continue the series’ binge model, where both previous seasons have been released all at once, like how Netflix does everything. But other streaming service have tried to spread things out, mainly to avoid people canceling their services immediately after watching.

He elaborated on that when asked:

“We all watched the first season and it wasn’t lost on me or anyone else who worked on the show that it’s a little anxiety inducing to watch that show, and anxiety inducing are not the adjectives typically associated with hit television shows and Emmy awards. So we made a decision that we would drop the whole thing because for those of you who saw it, it has a really beautiful, very uplifting ending,” Landgraf said.

“When we came back for Season 2, we debated, since we knew now that we had a hit, can we milk it a little bit? Can we roll it out over weeks? More Bear is better? We then thought that’s a rotten thing to do, to change it up for the audience. The way that Chris makes it, even though the episodes are separate, there’s a whole vibe to every season so we decided not to change what we had already set in motion and I have no doubt that we’ll keep doing it because we did it in the past. Even if we could, I don’t think we’d change it now.”

Honestly, I’m a little impressed they resisted the temptation, though I think at this point, given its viewership and its awards, why would they bother changing anything at all? If the show continues to deliver, don’t screw with the formatting if it was working for it previously.

Why is the June 2024 release date a bit surprising? Because that means The Bear, which debuted in June 2022 and season 2 arrived in 2023, is sticking exactly to a yearly schedule. This used to be standard in the entertainment industry, perhaps, but these days it’s more common to do a year and a half easy between seasons, if not more, so this is a rare series sticking to an exact schedule. And given that it was June 23 and then June 22, we may even know when in the month it’s arriving too. Can’t wait to see what Emmy-worthy performances we’ll see this time.
