Embark Studios has released the patch notes for The Finals update 1.5.5, which take aim at the incredibly annoying revive meta that has become popular over recent weeks.
The surprise patch is mainly designed to nerf the defibrillators and how powerful reviving teammates can be. The current go-to strategy for many players has been to run a team that all carries defibrillators, and just running in to take fights. Then when a teammate goes down you can quickly hop over to their dead body, revive them in a matter of moments and make sure they get a nice invincibility boost for a few seconds as they are revived, basically meaning you can have infinite lives with some coordination.
The strategy has become incredibly popular and was definitely in need of some kind of nerf. Now that nerf has arrived in the 1.5.5 patch notes, which reduces the invulnerability time following a review from 1.5 seconds to 0.75 seconds. This nerf should mean you can no longer be revived and just get up and run to cover safely every time. Having a fraction of a second should give you a fighting chance for anyone camping your body, but should also stop this strategy from being too annoying.
Elsewhere in the 1.5.5 patch notes a number of weapons get some balance changes. The .357 Revolver gets a big upgrade to its spread and damage fall-off, while the CL-40 gets a nice damage increase. Then in a change that will likely not be noticed by many, the FCAR goes from 26 damage to 25.
The patch also brings with it a few bug fixes that target crashes and the annoying bug where your crossplay settings would not be saved.
Rounding out the patch notes is a quick update on the Recon Senses ability that the medium class has. The ability is essentially a limited-time wallhack, showing you where enemies are, even through walls. The dev team notes in the patch notes that this ability is in need of a complete overhaul and that will be coming in a future patch, with the team already working on a solution.
The patch arrives as The Finals’ player count is starting to drop. Earlier today it dropped out of the 20 most-played games on Steam and currently sits at number 29 on the list. While having over 26,000 players in-game on a Wednesday morning is not bad by any means, it is a far cry from the impressive numbers The Finals posted at launch last year.
