Apple Vision Pro: 7 Problems For Overseas Buyers

News RoomNews RoomJanuary 20, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

The new Apple Vision Pro is available exclusively in the United States. So, what’s to stop you buying it from somewhere else in the world? Well, there are some little issues you need to know about, and they may make you think twice, international buyers.

Apple has confirmed some details in the FAQs section of the pre-orders page, and there are seven main things you need to know about.

1. Prescription Lenses

Zeiss makes lens inserts for those with less than perfect vision, which is realistically most of us, probably. However, in addition to the fact that you need a current, unexpired prescription, Zeiss only accepts “prescriptions written by U.S. eye care professionals. Zeiss will only ship to U.S. addresses.” That complicates things for quite a lot of people.

2. Content Missing

Some apps or features, even some content, may not be available outside of the U.S. due to a licensing issue.

3. Language Support

The Vision Pro will only support U.S. English for language and typing, which is an irritation if you speak U.K. English and more of a challenge if you speak another language altogether.

4. Siri

Similarly, Siri and Dictation are only supported in English.

5. Purchases

Apparently, “Apple Music and Apple TV app purchases require an Apple ID with the region set to the United States.” While it’s easy to create an Apple ID, you need a U.S. address and it adds another level of things to think about.

6. App Store

The App Store for visionOS requires an Apple ID with the region set to the United States. Again, this isn’t insurmountable but it’s not ideal.

7. Apple Support

Finally, Apple Support is only available in the U.S.

All of which may make you feel that it’s going to be easier to wait until Apple Vision Pro is released in your country. It’s coming to the U.K. this year, and could be sooner rather than later, but the lure of the early adopter may be too much for some people. Worldwide FOMO could lead to a significant number of overseas purchases.
