In the wake of Daredevil’s brief reappearance in Echo this past week, there’s some news about his upcoming standalone revival show, Daredevil: Born Again.
The show underwent essentially a total scrapping of its original concept and landed a new showrunner and writers. Now, one of the big rumored mistakes of the now-aborted version seems to have been corrected. Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll, according to insider Jeff Sneider, will reprise their roles playing Foggy Nelson and Karen Page.
While it was strange that the pair of them, essential pieces of the original Netflix series, wouldn’t return for Born Again, even more bizarre was the rumor that the storyline of the new version would see both characters killed offscreen, fueling Matt’s rage leading into the season.
Thankfully, that does not appear to be the plan any longer, and the pair be in fact be set to return. Besides this, we only know that Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is back, as he has been across both Hawkeye and Echo now. We don’t know what other cast members from the Netflix show may reappear, including the season 3’s Bullseye or season 2’s Elektra. Or, of course, any of the other Defenders like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage or Danny Rand, as their series have also recently been dubbed “MCU canon” as Marvel tries to build out its “street level” portion of the universe, which may end up actually including Spider-Man as well.
Daredevil is easily one of the projects Marvel fans are most excited about, even in this era of relative MCU fatigue, but the fact that we had A) writer and actor strikes and B) the entire project needing to be restarted from the ground up, it’s likely an extremely long ways away, and we’re no doubt going to see dozens of rumors about what is or is not happening.
For now, the idea that Foggy and Karen would return is certainly an idea miles better than killing them off. Deborah Ann Woll has been asked about this many times, and as recently as December said “I loved working on that so much, and she’s such a cool, cool person. I miss her.”
Hopefully she will get to realize that, and we’ll wait and see if Marvel ends up making any official announcements about this. Though given how the last plan for the show blew up, they may be waiting until things progress a little further before making any public proclamations about the series.
