Today’s Wordle #933 Hints, Clues And Answer For Monday, January 8th 2024

News RoomNews RoomJanuary 8, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

Lazy Sunday has come and gone and with it a bunch of the fluffy white stuff. Snow has blanketed everything from my driveway to the distant horizon. The mountains are ready for skiers and snowboarders.

I was expecting a bit more than we got, but it’s nice to get any at all and hopefully this next chilly week will see even more snow and not just below-freezing temperatures.

For now, let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Word

The Hint: The end.

The Clue: This word begins with a consonant.

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

I’m on a bit of a streak, getting the word in 3 guesses several days in a row. Not too shabby! Probably means I’ll get it in five tomorrow, though. Today I started out with plate which is a word very close to Wordle Bot’s favorite, slate, without being that word. I like to mix it up!

This was respectable enough, leaving me with a couple yellow boxes and 79 remaining solutions. Lunar slashed that to just five, though I could only think of three: canal, banal and final. I figured I’d go with the extra vowel and that turned out to be a good call. Final for the win!

Today’s Score

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying the Bot. Again!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “final” comes from the Late Latin word “finalis,” which means “pertaining to an end,” from the Latin word “finis” meaning “end.” The progression of the word into the English language likely occurred through Old French. The Latin root “finis” has been a source for many words in English that convey the notion of ending or limit, such as “finish,” “finite,” and “infinite” (implying the negation of an end or limit).

The use of “final” in English to signify the last part or concluding element reflects this origin, emphasizing the concept of bringing something to an end or completion.

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also play against the Bot if you have a New York Times subscription.

Here are the rules:

  • 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating me
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
  • -3 points for losing.
  • -1 point for losing to me

You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.
