During the most recent Tarkov TV livestream, game director Nikita Buyanov revealed that in 2024 you will actually be able to escape from Tarkov, in the Escape From Tarkov game, with the addition of story content that will provide an actual end game. However, the much less important but way more fun announcement was that it is now snowing in Tarkov.
The announcement of snow was made live on stream when a blizzard hit the raid the team was showing off. Quickly snow started to fall and soon the entire map was covered in the white stuff, changing the audio of footsteps and making things look very different. Players quickly reported that the blizzard had also hit other maps, and now all of Tarkov is covered in snow and will be for the foreseeable future.
Given that this is just a small visual change it has actually completely changed the look and feel of Escape From Tarkov, and is arguably the most refreshing change we have had this wipe. Of course, the snow won’t last forever, but Nikita said that this is the start of the new seasons feature, where the weather in Tarkov will match the real-world season.
While this was the only immediate new addition, the livestream was used to make some announcements about upcoming features in 2024, the biggest of which is that you will actually be able to escape from Tarkov. 2024 will see the release of some new story content that will give a proper narrative to Escape From Tarkov, this will conclude with a series of quests that will allow you to finally escape from Tarkov and complete the game.
Tying into this will be the release of the Terminal map, which Nikita teased would be very different to current maps, suggesting it will be tied into this story content and could even be a single-player map. The map will be the last to be added to the base game of Tarkov, with some of the other announced maps being moved to potential future DLC releases. Speaking of maps, the level cap for Ground Zero will also be removed soon.
The release of endgame content suggests that Escape From Tarkov will leave beta in 2024 and finally hit its 1.0 release. The game has been in beta for years, with the dev team continuously promising that eventually they will release the game fully and potentially even put it on Steam. Nikita said this end-game content would not be in the beta, suggesting the 1.0 release should be on track for 2024.
It was also announced that in 2024 Tarkov will get a visual overhaul, with new graphics, vegetation and an improved look. Tarkov is by no means a bad-looking game, but it could do with some improvements as it is starting to look a little dated.
