Today’s Wordle #907 Hints, Clues And Answer For Wednesday, December 13th

News RoomNews RoomDecember 13, 2023No Comments4 Mins Read

Welcome back to another edition of Wordle Wednesday! Each Wednesday we solve the Wordle, but first I give readers a bonus challenge in the form of a riddle, logic puzzle or brain teaser. I reveal the answer on Thursdays.

Here’s today’s challenge:

A man has 53 socks in his drawer: 21 identical blue, 15 identical black and 17 identical red. The lights are out and he is completely in the dark. How many socks must he take out to make 100 percent certain he has at least one pair of black socks?

Let me know on Twitter or Facebook if you come up with the solution!

Alright, let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Word

The Hint: How you feel after a really hard workout.

The Clue: There are far more consonants than vowels in this word.

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

Another day of lucky guesses for yours truly. Dream wasn’t terrible, though it wasn’t particularly great. With just one green box and 82 words remaining, I had my work cut out for me.

For my second guess, I turned to one of my favorites and guessed hoist, which was pretty good this time, slashing 82 down to 9. Now I had an ‘E’ in green and a ‘T’ in green and a yellow ‘S’.

At this point I could think of quite a few words (though I didn’t come up with 9) all of which started with ‘S’. Not much strategy at this point, just a guess to see if I could at least narrow down my options. I was quite pleasantly surprised when spent cashed in as the Wordle!

Today’s Competitive Wordle Score

At long last—after many ties and losses—I beat the Bot who took four tries today. That’s 1 point for guessing in three and 1 point for destroying my nemesis for a total of 2 lovely wonderful points. Huzzah!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “spent” has its origins in the Old English term “spendan,” which was derived from the Latin word “spendere.” The Latin term means “to pay out, spend, expend; consume, use up, waste,” and it’s related to the Latin “expendere,” which means “to weigh out money, to pay out.”

The evolution of “spent” in English followed a similar path. Initially, it carried the meaning of “to pay out” in a monetary sense, but over time, its usage expanded to include the broader notion of using up resources or energy. This expansion in meaning reflects a common linguistic phenomenon where the scope of a word’s meaning broadens over time to encompass related concepts.

Today, “spent” is commonly used to describe the state of being used up or exhausted, not just in the context of money but also in terms of physical and emotional resources.

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also play against the Bot if you have a New York Times subscription.

Here are the rules:

  • 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating me
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
  • -3 points for losing.
  • -1 point for losing to me

You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.
