The All-New Nuphy Air75 V2 Mechanical Keyboard Reviewed And Rated

News RoomNews RoomNovember 9, 2023No Comments5 Mins Read

Sometimes, I wish I had a clear desk like people who post photos of their office setup on Instagram. If I did have a clear desk, I could have a minimalist clear surface to work on instead of a desk strewn with a jumble of cables, docks and review gadgets that’s a complete mess. But if I did have a minimalist desk, the keyboard I would want would be the Nuphy Air75 V2.

This low-profile keyboard with its wide and flat keycaps is beautiful. It’s one of the smartest-looking keyboards suitable for macOS or Windows. This 75% keyboard has 84 keys and is as small a keyboard as is practically usable and includes a row of function keys that can double as media controls for both macOS and Windows computers.

Nuphy makes some of the most recognizable mechanical keyboards on the market. The company’s low-profile keyboards have keycaps with much larger surface area than regular mechanical keyboards. The increased surface area makes the Nuphy Air75 V2 easier to type on and more accurate.

This keyboard is the second iteration of Nuphy’s 75% keyboard and has new QMK firmware, which means it can be endlessly customized using VIA software or website. You can assign keystrokes to individual keys and there are separate layers for the key layout. However, most people won’t bother customizing this keyboard as it has most of the keys you’d probably need, including the entire row of media keys for macOS and Windows.

Another feature about Nuphy keyboards that I like is the provision of extra keycaps for Windows and macOS, as well as different color keys so you can ring the changes on the color of the spacebar, ESC key and Enter button. You can also order the keyboard in black, grey or white colorways to suit your desk setup. The keycaps are PBT and double shot, so they should provide longevity.

The Nuphy Air75 V2 has two pull-out legs to give a different rake angle depending on your typing style to get the ideal typing angle. The angles on offer are 3.5/6.5/8.5 degrees. Nuphy also sells custom-designed wrist rests for their keyboards, which make typing much more comfortable and can avoid the risk of developing RSI.

There are three ways of connecting the Nuphy Air75 V2 to a host computer. A USB-C cable connection offers a polling rate of 1000Hz, which means very little lag or latency when gaming. For those who must have wireless connectivity, the Nuphy Air75 V2 has Bluetooth and RF connectivity. The RF dongle that ships with the keyboard plugs into a spare USB port and provides very low-latency wireless connectivity.

For the rest of us who maybe don’t need to worry too much about latency, there is Bluetooth connectivity with the possibility of wireless connections to three different devices, so you could use the keyboard with two computers and a tablet, switching between them with a key press.

As you’d expect with a mechanical keyboard, the Nuphy Air75 V2 has a full set of RGB LEDs on its hot-swappable switches, so you can select from a range of colors, lighting effects and brightness levels to suit how you like to work. The rechargeable battery inside the keyboard will keep the lights running for a few weeks, but you get much longer battery life with the lights off.

When you order one of these keyboards, you can choose which type of switch you’d like fitted. There’s a choice of switches called Aloe, Moss, Cowberry or Wisteria. Each switch type offers a different travel distance, tactile feedback and spring length. The type of switch you choose is very much. It’s a personal decision, but as this is a hot-swappable keyboard, you can order different low-profile switches from Nuphy and change them whenever you like. It’s a soothing thing to do, especially on these long and dark winter nights.

Verdict: The Nuphy Air75 V2 is a superb and compact mechanical keyboard that makes typing a pure joy. This keyboard offers the same low-profile typing experience as Apple’s compact Magic Keyboard but with the benefit of mechanical switches. If you always wanted a mechanical keyboard for your Mac but were horrified at the thought of having a large and ugly keyboard on your desk, the Nuphy Air75 V2 is the ideal choice. Highly Recommended.

Pricing & Availability: The Nuphy Air75 V2 mechanical keyboard is available now and costs $119.95.
