In a lovely little video, Charles Martinet breaks down how he will work as an ambassador for the Super Mario series, with Shigeru Miyamoto thanking him for his many long years of excellent work.
The video (shown below) covers the fact that Charles Martinet will be effectively retiring as the voice of Mario, Luigi and Wario for the Super Mario series. With his new role being that of ambassador for the series and his continued interaction with the very passionate fandom.
Shigeru Miyamoto also thanks Martinet for his work and points out that he is in fact very tall. If I am honest, I did not know this. I always assumed that he would be a shorter chap, but in fact he is one big dude.
Apparently Martinet bumped his head on the entrance to a restaurant in Kyoto and calls Miyamoto “Papa”, which are also things I did not know.
Personally, I am glad that Nintendo is still keeping Martinet around and treating the guy with the respect he has very clearly earned. Not to mention that the fans love Martinet, as he is the voice of our collective gaming childhood.
One interesting additional point is that Miyamoto confirmed that Super Mario Wonder will indeed feature new voice actors.
In the meantime, I hope Martinet can enjoy his retirement and have fun in his new ambassador role for the Super Mario games.
